About the Workshop:
Color me Happy is about creating characters with simple shapes, you will learn how to build the character with personality and movement in an unlimited space of 5 x 6. I will teach you how to create a personality using these shapes, making the character come to life. Give each character expression. Please give them a story in movement on your paper.
Playful a big part of your character. Give them attitude! Be free to learn how to create loose lines with your wax china pencil. Color plays a significant role here.
Color me happy is adding happy colors to bring out their joy. I will teach you how to apply color strokes using a rubber wedge and, in some areas, a flat and round watercolor brush to add detail that the wedge cannot.
It will be challenging for most of you, but do not worry at first it can be challenging but with practice and dedication you will be fine. You will get into a rhythm and flow of it. The most important in this course is have fun. I advise you to get yourself a sketchbook and draw shapes to create characters. If you find yourself getting frustrated, get out of the way! Know that you are in a learning process. Getting out of the way implies not allowing brutal self criticism to hinder your process. This is your creative growth! Embrace and dive right in. It is natural to feel frustrated when learning something new. It happens to all artists that includes me. When you find yourself stuck, feel it and let it go, and get back to your creative playful groove. You got this! It is about you and your character in your creative space.
Color:
Everything around you is about color, starting with you. You aren’t just a white old plain person. You are made with beautiful color tones. We aren’t just white, black or brown. Hear me out! We are made with colors. You have pink, orange, rose, blues, purple, yellow, and some raw umber tones - a darker person who is black and, like myself, who is brown. Our skin tome is dark purple, pink, green, magenta, dark blues, yellow, and bronze.
When we’re Happy, our colors are more vibrant; if we’re sad, our colors are grey, muddy brown, ash blues, and dirty red.
On video 1 :
We will use gouache and wax china pencil to learn how to draw shapes and apply color with a rubber wedge. Gouache is a paint similar to watercolor, but gouache is denser opaque and matte. Once it's dry, you can add another color on top of the one you just applied. Easy to work with. You can also use gouache fluidly. That will be our third video.
On video 2 :
How do you apply darker colors to your character with darker tones? By adding the colors I mentioned above.
The paper we will be using is Cemex filter paper and Shizen infiam watercolor paper.
On Video 3 :
I will teach you to apply gouache fluidly on Indian paper. Shizen is handmade paper made of recycled 100% cotton material and has a beautiful texture.
